Summer Wines What to drink!

Hi All,
Welcome to the inaugural Wine Geek blog, hope everyone has some fun with this and we can share what is a favorite wine of yours and mine as well as answer any questions pertaining to anything wine. Lets jump right into it. I know summer has been a bummer on the weather front, however I have been able to enjoy some great wines when the weather permitted a time to barbecue . My favorite summer wines so far have been the following in no particular order.

La Casita Sangria- A fun party wine that over delivers in value, this is it!
Sole Beech Sauv Blanc from New Zealand- Typical NZ sauv blanc with lots of citrus and tartness
Hayman & Hill Meritage - On those cool summer evenings, a full bodied blend that is great by itself or with a nice NY strip steak.

  2. Hey Dan,
To me nothing compliments lobster with drawn butter better than a medium bodied chardonnay that has a modicum of delicate fruit and acidity will match the inherent richness of the lobster meat and help cut through the butter that you will most likely be dipping your lobster into. A Russian River chardonnay such as Irony will fill the bill as it is priced to not hurt the wallet, or if you have a few dollars more to spend Ferrari Carano chardonnay from Sonoma would be an excellent choice.

  3. Hi Mr. Wine Geek

I love French White Burgundy Wine, especailly during the summer. Do you have any favorites?

One other question. Do you think Bouchard
Meursault Gereurieros 2006 is better than 2005?

  4. Hi Sesa,
Yes I do have some favorites.
for everyday drinking, Latour or Joseph Droughin makes very nice wines.

As for your question regarding the Bouchard Meursault, I have never had so I could not compare which is better.

  5. Thank You Mr. Wine Geek

Latour certainly makes some great White Burgundies. I like Jadot better but Latour is a good value.

Does your store carry any Meursaults for around $80?

  6. Currently at this time no.
However if you would like something in particular you can call or stop in and special order whatever suits you.

May I suggest one that I tried a year ago at a Restaurant tasting, Latour Meursault Charmes 05,priced around 85-88, it is well worth it.
